Barcelona star Lionel Messi snatched another record from Cristiano Ronaldo in Wednesday's victory over PSV.

The Argentina international scored a fine goal to move one clear of Ronaldo as the most prolific goalscorer for a single club in Champions League history.

Indeed, his 106th strike in the competition eclipsed Ronaldo's tally for Real Madrid in the Champions League (105), capping Barca's dominance with a superb effort befitting of the milestone moment.

He picked up the ball on the edge of the box and, with four defenders around him, managed to dance into space and provide a thunderous finish with little backlift.

Messi then set up Gerard Pique to double the visitors lead before Luuk de Jong's late consolation.

On the record, Messi said: "I am delighted, I have just found out now. I am happy for this new stat."

"He's a player you almost can't stop," said PSV coach Mark van Bommel. "You have to do everything you can — and we did that — to block his shots. But sometimes it doesn't work and that has to do with the quality of the player. That's why he's the best in the world."
