Brendan Rodgers out to stun the planet as Celtic welcome star-studded PSG to Scotland

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers knows the eyes of the world will be on Glasgow tonight… and is convinced his side can prove the planet wrong.

Neymar and Kylian Mbappe will lead a Paris Saint-Germain squad awash with talent in their Champions League opener at Celtic Park.

PSG warmed up for their Champions League tie with a crushing 5-1 win at Metz, where all of their £420million frontline of Neymar, Mbappe and Edinson Cavani found the net.

Celtic are overwhelming underdogs in the Group B clash but Rodgers backed his Scottish champions to rise to the occasion and stun one of the most expensively assembled squads in history.

“We are clear that the world will look at the game and everyone will expect us to lose,” Rodgers said. “But, for our players, our own cause is different.

“These are the games where you get the chance to write your story that can be heard worldwide.

“We fought so hard to get into the competition, so we can go on and make progress. Home games can be very important for us.

Wenger: We were close to signing Mbappe

“We are facing a huge opponent, but we are excited by it. We won’t be overawed by it.

“Maybe not many people were watching the Hamilton game last Friday night, but certainly the eyes of the world will be on this game and it should be a great spectacle.”

Rodgers will be able to call on Scotland international Leigh Griffiths but Moussa Dembele, who scored a brace in last season’s 3-3 draw with Manchester City, is out with a hamstring injury.
