Bryan Ruiz insists there’s more to Fulham than just Dimitar Berbatov

Bryan Ruiz says Fulham are not a one-man team, after Dimitar Berbatov won them the points again.

Berbatov scored for the third game in row, following his volleyed goal in the 1-0 win over Stoke and the penalty in the draw at Sunderland.

Seven points from those three games have strengthened Fulham’s position in the top 10 but Ruiz insists all the team, not just Berbatov, should take credit.

“People talk a lot about Berbatov,” said the 27-year-old Costa Rican (above). “He is a good player but all the team is doing well, playing good from behind, and that is one thing he cannot do on his own.”

Berbatov has been criticised throughout his career for an apparent lack of work-rate, particularly in defending, and Ruiz accepts that the Bulgarian is in his element when he is in the opposition half.

“It is great to play with him,” said the forward. “But it is about team-work. We showed that against Tottenham when we defended very well.

“Berbatov’s best quality is not to defend, so all the players did a great job and also used the qualities that Berbatov has.”

Fulham have lost just twice in their last nine League fixtures and Ruiz is confident that the team have turned a corner after a run of one win from 12 games.

“We believe more in ourselves now,” he said. “Sometimes we did not get the points we deserved but we have changed out mentality.”
