Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that he is keen to return to management at the start of next season and hinted that he is interested in taking charge at Manchester United in the future.

The Italian tactician has been out of work since he was sacked by Real Madrid in May, despite leading the Spanish club to their 10th European Cup earlier in his tenure.

The 56-year-old is one of the continent's most well-respected coaches and has enjoyed spells in charge of Chelsea, PSG, Juventus and AC Milan during an illustrious career.

But Ancelotti is in no rush to return to football and is not interested in starting a role in the middle of the current campaign.

He will wait for the right opportunity to arise instead and has admitted that, like many of his peers, he would be interested in a role at Old Trafford.

“Of course, for every manager, they would all think of managing Manchester United," he told the Independent.

Regarding the timescale of his return to the game, Ancelotti said: “I will continue to wait. If I don’t find a club with a good project, I can wait.

"What will I do? Watching games, fishing, all these things. But let us see next summer.

"I will not take a job in mid-season, but I would like to work again next summer.”

Ancelotti wants to make his comeback with a club that is competitive and, ideally, located in the Premier League.

“I have no regrets about staying at Real because I really enjoyed Madrid. I would like to come back in a club with a good project, but, of course, one that is competitive.

“When I went to PSG, it was a club with a really good project. They were not a club with a tradition like Milan or Madrid, but they wanted to grow and are still on this path now.

"But, the Premier League is the best in the sense of atmosphere, ambience. It is also competitive, so I would like to come back, especially for the atmosphere.”
