Charlie Patino scored his first goal for Blackpool on Saturday to earn the praise of boss Michael Appleton.

The Tangerines manager joined a swell of online fans reacting to the 18-year-old midfielder’s close-range finish at the New Den in a 2-1 defeat to Millwall.

The moment marked Arsenal loanee Patino’s first Championship goal upon his return to the starting XI following an ankle injury that kept him out for a run of four games.

“I thought the goal chalked off a good display from Charlie,” Appleton told the club website.

“I thought he brought a lot of composure to his game and did well in the middle of the park. He allowed us to play with a little bit more freedom at times, whether that's him dropping at the base or playing higher up the pitch.

“He did tire towards the end, but you'd expect that with the amount of time he's had out.”
