Russell Slade has been appointed as the new manager of Charlton Athletic this morning.
The 55-year-old has signed a three-year contract at the Valley and joins after leaving his role as Head of Football at Championship club Cardiff City.
Slade has managed Leyton Orient, Bright & Hove Albion and Yeovil Town as well as Cardiff in recent years and is relishing the challenge ahead of him.
"I am very pleased to be appointed manager of Charlton, a club with a fantastic tradition and history.
"I was attracted to Charlton as it has has great facilities, passionate fans and a very successful academy.
"This is a hugely exciting opportunity and I cannot wait to get started,” he told the club's official website.
Charlton were relegated to League One last season and large sections of the club's fanbase remain dissatisfied with owner Roland Duchatelet.
CEO Katrien Meire is adamant the club are not underestimating how difficult it will be to return to the second tier but is adamant they have the right man to lead them back to the Championship in Slade.
"We don’t underestimate the challenge of getting Charlton back into the Championship.
"We believe Russell is the man to help us achieve this and, with the help of everyone involved in the club, ensure that Charlton have a successful 2016/17 campaign.
"He joins us as Manager on a long-term contract and his appointment represents the start of an exciting new era at the club under his guidance,” she added.
Slade's predecessor Jose Riga resigned on the final day of last season after the club's relegation.
Slade will be officially unveiled at a press conference at The Valley on Tuesday.
