Bob Peeters praised Charlton debutant Joe Gomez after the 17-year-old defender impressed in last night’s 4-0 Capital One Cup first-round win against Colchester.

Gomez, who won the European Under-17 Championship with England in the summer, looks set for an exciting future and manager Peeters said: “He is a very good player and I know I can count on him. I am very happy with a lot of young guns who played last night. [Joe] made his debut at The Valley before a good crowd and I am very happy.”
