He has been at Chelsea since the age of 14 and has been the Blues' captain since 2004, so it is hardly surprising that John Terry loves the west London club.

The central defender has been a mainstay at Stamford Bridge since working his way up the club's academy, and is set to enter into his 22nd year at Chelsea following his recent contract renewal.

So when the time came this week for Terry to give his new dog a name, the 35-year-old decided that only something linked to Chelsea would do.

Alongside a photo of his new dog on Instagram, Terry revealed he has chosen to name his pet Blue after, of course, Chelsea.

"New addition to the Terry household tonight," he wrote on the social network site. "Welcome BLUE."

Terry has been a prominent player in Antonio Conte's Chelsea side in pre-season, with the Italian hailing the experienced defender's role in setting an example to the younger members of the squad.

He is expected to start at the heart of Chelsea's defence when the Blues open up the new Premier League campaign at home to London rivals West Ham on Monday.
