The January transfer window is heading down the home straight.

Time is running out for Premier League clubs to bolster their options - or shed some of their dead wood - as deadline day will soon be looming large.

There is plenty to play for during the second half of the season as clubs ponder whether they will be fighting relegation or battling for the title.

Chelsea are not expected to do either. Even a return to form might only be enough for Guus Hiddink's side to achieve mid-table obscurity.

The reigning champions' slump has been difficult to explain but it seems at least one player is set to shoulder some of the blame.

Ramires only signed a contract extension at Stamford Bridge last October but the Brazilian international could be out on his ear before the month is out.

New reports suggest Chelsea are 'close' to selling the 28-year-old as his sale would free up funds to be used elsewhere as the Blues start a rebuilding programme.
