Gary Cahill says Tottenham will have a major disadvantage should their top scorer Harry Kane be missing for their FA Cup semi-final clash with Chelsea.

Kane suffered an ankle injury in their quarter-final tie against Millwall on Sunday and manager Mauricio Pochettino fears the England striker faces a long spell on the sidelines. Results of a scan are due in the next 24 hours.

Kane has scored a remarkable 24 goals in 29 appearances this term, but Spurs struggled without him when he had a problem with the same ankle earlier in the season.

Cahill, though, has mixed feelings over Kane’s possible absence as he would like to see him in the England squad to face Germany in a friendly and Lithuania in a World Cup qualifier later this month.

Pochettino discusses Harry Kane at press conference

“I hope Harry is fit to meet up with us for England.

"I don’t know the outcome of it [the injury] but it looked nasty when I saw it.

“I wish him all the best because it’s not nice to pick up an injury or be out of the game. It’s all about playing and keeping fit now.

“Harry has proved again this year that he is a key player for them — a key striker and a key talisman.

"I’m sure it will be a blow for Tottenham [if he misses the semi-final].”
