Tottenham are confident of agreeing a deal with Christian Eriksen to keep the Dane at the club for the next four years.

Eriksen is believed to be very close to finalising terms on a renewal with Spurs after on-off discussions that have lasted more than a year.

It is even possible that the deal could be finalised as early as next week, when Eriksen returns from international duty.

Eriksen is poised to collect a substantial pay rise - worth about £75,000 per week - that sees him become one of the best-paid players in the Tottenham squad.

The 24-year-old is currently with Denmark preparing for a friendly against Liechtenstein on Wednesday, followed by the World Cup qualifier against Armenia on Sunday.

Spurs and Liverpool fans reveal transfer wish-lists

After that, he will be back at Tottenham's Enfield training base to prepare for the Premier League fixture at Stoke on September 10 - and may even sign the contract in the days leading up to that game.

Eriksen joined Tottenham in the summer of 2013 for about £11million from Ajax, and has been one of the club's most consistent players, contributing a regular flow of goals and assists.

He has attracted interest from both Juventus and Paris St Germain in the last 12 months but has chosen to extend his stay at White Hart Lane.

Both Manchester United and Manchester City targeted Eriksen in the past while Atletico Madrid also admired him.

The length of time taken by the talks caused some at Tottenham to fear Eriksen would reach next summer with only one year remaining on his deal, making him an attractive proposition to potential suitors.

Yet Eriksen's agent confirmed exclusively to Standard Sport last month that his client remained happy at Tottenham and there is now confidence that he will finally put pen to paper.
