Connor Wickham is hoping to move on from his Crystal Palace injury nightmares after scoring his first Premier League goal in more than three years on Wednesday.

The Palace striker, who has battled various fitness problems since sustaining a serious knee injury in November 2016, came off the bench to grab the equaliser in the 1-1 draw against Norwich at Carrow Road.

Brought in by manager Roy Hodgson following injuries to Andros Townsend and Christian Benteke, Wickham, 26, told Palace TV: “I’ve been back for a while now and chances have been difficult to come upon.

“I’ve remained positive and tried to stay as high spirited as I can, to train the best I can.

“That is all I can do. We’ve got injuries in my position, which gave me a chance against Norwich and I’ve got a goal.

“Hopefully it will put me back to the forefront of people’s minds and start [them] talking about goals and games rather than things I’ve missed.”

Should Palace bring in a striker this month, Wickham could be sent out on loan to get more game time.
