'Diver' Luis Suarez off the hook

The Football Association are unlikely to take any action against Luis Suarez despite the Liverpool striker admitting yesterday that he dived to win a penalty against Stoke this season.

No retrospective action will be taken because referee Lee Mason did not book the striker and made no mention of the dive in his report. A precedent was set when Theo Walcott escaped punishment in 2011 despite admitting to diving to win a penalty for Arsenal.

Although the FA are expected not to take any action, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers criticised Suarez, saying: “He was wrong to say it.”
