Emmanuel Adebayor needs to pull his finger out to be top dog at Tottenham

You have to admire Emmanuel Adebayor’s confidence.

Once affording him the appropriate respect to gather himself after the death of his brother Peter in July, his belief that he will end up as Tottenham’s top striker this season must be viewed with cynicism.

Tottenham spent the summer trying to offload Adebayor (above), yet no suitable buyer was willing to meet his demands.

“We are now four in the attack, I do not know who ranks first, second or third but I know at the end I will be the first and that is the most important,” he said.

Adebayor has often played his best football when he has a point to prove — or more specifically, a new contract to play for.

But it is his work rate that infuriated many Spurs fans last season and that has to change. Only hard work and perseverance will give him a chance of usurping Roberto Soldado.
