Tim Sherwood believes that former Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor is willing to 'play for nothing' and would be a welcome addition to his Aston Villa squad.
The 31-year-old forward came close to joining Villa earlier in the summer but eventually opted against a loan move to the West Midlands.
However, the Togo international has since been told that he does not feature in Mauricio Pochettino's plans and was released by the north London club by mutual consent on Sunday morning.
Sherwood worked with the forward during his brief tenure at White Hart Lane and, speaking before news of Adebayor's Spurs exit surfaced, admitted that he would be keen to reignite his interest in the striker if Adebayor became available.
"I would not hesitate. If he had the desire to want to come and play football again, I would have taken him in a heartbeat.
"It's not financial. It's easy to say that when you're on his money, but he would genuinely play for nothing. It's not his fault he's not part of their plans.
"If he wanted to play in Qatar he would have gone there a long time ago. It's hard to say," Sherwood insisted. "We still have to respect his decision, whatever he makes. It's his - I can't influence it."

Adebayor enjoyed a rich vein of form under Sherwood at Tottenham in the second half of the 2013/14 campaign, scoring 11 goals in 20 top flight appearances.
The striker is now a free agent and can negotiate with any club that he so wishes but will be unable to join a new team until January as he was released outside of the transfer window.
