Ashley Cole was named in the England starting line-up for the friendly international with Denmark, five weeks since last appearing for Chelsea.

The 33-year-old has 106 caps to his name but his place at the World Cup is far from assured, with Southampton teenager Luke Shaw vying to join Leighton Baines in going to Brazil.

The uncapped 18-year-old was named among the substitutes and expected to get a run-out in the second half at Wembley, where Roy Hodgson made five changes to November's 1-0 defeat to Germany.

England included five Liverpool players in the team to face Denmark, who were captained by Reds defender Daniel Agger.

England: Hart, Johnson, Cahill, Smalling, Cole, Gerrard, Henderson, Wilshere, Rooney, Sterling, Sturridge.

Denmark: Schmeichel, Jacobsen, Kjaer, Agger, Ankersen, Kvist, Sloth, Poulsen, Larsen, Krohn-Dehli, Bendtner.
