100 club: Rooney will celebrate a century on Saturday
Standard Sport14 November 2014

Roy Hodgson's England side host Slovenia in the latest chapter of their European qualification campaign on Saturday.

The Three Lions will be hoping to maintain their perfect start to Group E with a fourth successive victory at Wembley

England haven't conceded a goal since Luis Suarez all but ended their World Cup hopes with a fine brace in Sao Paulo.

And it was performances similar to that in the 2-1 defeat to Uruguay which prompted Hodgson to claim his players were 'too honest'; but Gary Cahill believes the issue has been sorted.

“It’s something we’ve certainly addressed,” the England vice-captain said.

“At first it was from the manager. If you see us now we are definitely a lot harder to play against and I’m not just speaking about the top four.

"That is about being physical, wanting to win the ball back and just being physical. It’s the basics of defending and at the minute we are doing that really well.”

Both Michael Carrick and Andros have withdrawn from the squad with a injuries, while Rooney will celebrate his 100th cap.

Here, Standard Sport highlights three key battles which could decide the outcome.
