England boss Gareth Southgate has confirmed that Wayne Rooney will reclaim the number 10 shirt and receive the captain’s armband on his farewell performance against the USA at Wembley on Thursday night.

England's all-time record goal scorer will win his 120th and final cap in the friendly, and will also receive a guard of honour from his team-mates.

There had been speculation over whether Rooney would be given his preferred choice of the No.10 jersey, given that he will not be named in the starting XI.

Manchester City's Fabian Delph will captain what is expected to be an experimental England side, before handing the armband to substitute Rooney.

When asked whether he would surrender the captaincy, Delph joked: "I probably won't get the armband again, so probably not!"

"When I first came into the England set up," Delph added.
