The FA are in advanced talks to arrange a series of high-profile friendlies as Roy Hodgson looks to give his England team a rigorous examination before Euro 2016.

With England top of Group E and already six points clear of their nearest challengers after only five games, post-qualification planning has already begun.

Assuming England do not have to play a two-legged play-off — which would only be required if they finished third without the best record of the teams across all nine groups in that position — France will visit Wembley on November 17. Discussions are ongoing for a game against Spain during the same international break to sign off 2015.

England will then reconvene in March and have confirmed an away game against Germany, while there are plans to play Holland a few days later, although the latter fixture is yet to be finalised.

Hodgson said: “We’ll have four or five games before France, and each of those will be played against top-class opponents, we think. Teams on a par with Italy. I know the games we have in our mind, and it’s Germany, France, Spain, Holland... the top.”
