Alexandre Pato has sealed a transfer to Spanish side Villarreal after leaving Chelsea earlier this month.

The Brazilian joined the Blues on a short-term loan deal in January, but due to lack of match fitness and the emergence of youngster Bertrand Traore, he had to wait three months before making his first appearance against Aston Villa.

After scoring in the game, Pato was handed a starting place in Guus Hiddink's side against Swansea City the following week but, after a series of missed chances, he was taken off at the Liberty Stadium and failed to break back into the Chelsea team.

The Blues subsequently decided not to sign the 26-year-old permanently, which allowed Pato to return to parent club Corinthians although he has now left to join Villarreal on a four-year deal.

Speaking about his time at Stamford Bridge, Pato said in June: "I do not regret [moving to Stamford Bridge]. Chelsea received me very well.

"I could play, scored a goal, I showed that I can play in Europe, in England. Because many say that England is very difficult. [But] I was hoping to play more."

Following the departures of Pato and fellow striker Radamel Falcao from Chelsea, the club have recruited forward Michy Batshuayi from Marseille, who has already scored twice in the Blues' 8-0 friendly victory over Austrian side Atus Ferlach last week.
