Former Crystal Palace and Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh has signed a short-term deal at Cardiff City, the Championship side have today announced.

The 32-year-old has agreed a deal with Cardiff, who currently reside in the Championship relegation zone, until January after being released by Palace in the summer.

The move will re-unite Chamakh with Neil Warnock, who he worked under at Palace, which the striker revealed played a big role in his decision to move to Cardiff.

"I’m so happy to be here and work with the Manager again," Chamakh told Cardiff City Player.

"I worked for him [Neil Warnock] at Crystal Palace before and I’m happy and proud to work with him here at Cardiff City FC.

"Cardiff are a side that should be on top and I think we can improve going forward. I’m looking forward to meeting with my new team-mates and getting started. I can’t wait to score for my new team."

Warnock revealed that the decision to recruit Chamakh on an initial short-term deal is to assess the Morocco international's fitness before the club look at whether a longer-term move could be on the cards.

"We’ve signed Marouane on a short-term deal until January to assess his fitness," Warnock confirmed.

"He’s a versatile player with pedigree and somebody who impressed me during my time at Crystal Palace."

Chamakh began his career at Bordeaux where he won the Ligue 1 title and helped the team, then managed by Laurent Blanc, reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League in 2010.

A transfer to Arsenal followed, where Chamakh scored 14 goals in 67 appearances, which preceded a short loan move to West Ham followed by a permanent one to Palace.

At Selhurst Park, the striker played 66 times, scoring 10 goals, but departed in the summer following the end of his contract after injury marred much of his three-year spell with Palace.
