Frank de Boer made a winning start to life as Crystal Palace manager in a pre-season friendly against Maidstone.

The Palace boss named a young starting side with the first team due to travel to Hong Kong for the Premier League Asia Trophy on Sunday.

Jordon Mutch was the only player with Premier League experience named in the XI and opened the scoring for the Eagles in the first period.

The 25-year-old, who was sent on loan to Reading for a spell last season, doubled his tally to put Palace back in front after Joe Pigott's smart free-kick had briefly hauled the home side level.

Substitute Jacob Berkeley then scored a third for the visitors in the second half to wrap up a 3-1 victory and kick-start the De Boer era in style.

Palace will now play Liverpool and one of Leicester or West Brom in Hong Kong before returning to Europe to face FC Metz. Their only pre-season fixture at Selhurst Park is against Schalke on August 5.
