Freddie Ljungberg says it is his job to ‘put smiles on faces again’ after has was named Arsenal’s interim head coach on Friday.

Unai Emery was sacked as Arsenal boss after Thursday night’s 2-1 home Europa League defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt made it seven games without a win in all competitions.

Ljungberg, who has never managed at senior level, but was in charge of the club’s U23 last season before being promoted to first team assistant in the summer, has been placed in charge while the search for a new manager is carried out.
