Granit Xhaka angers Arsenal fans after laughing with Frankfurt players following Europa League defeat

Arsenal fans fumed with Granit Xhaka after their skipper was seen laughing with and hugging the opposition players following the dismal loss to Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Gunners captain was back in the starting XI for the first time since his very public spat with Arsenal supporters, telling his own fans to "f*** off" after being substituted in the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace in October.

Despite taking the lead through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Arsenal conceded two late goals to the German side to extend their run without a win to seven games.

After the final whistle, BT Sport cameras picked up Xhaka laughing with Frankfurt’s David Abraham, a former teammate of the Gunners midfielder from the days together at Basel.

Xhaka was also seen hugging former Manchester City midfielder Gelson Fernandes, an international teammate of the Swiss.

Some Arsenal fans didn’t appreciate the timing of Xhaka catching up with old friends, with one Twitter user writing: “Get out my club ASAP” with another adding: “Xhaka smiling and laughing… exit him in January. Horrendous player, needs to go.”

Another wrote: “Xhaka laughing at the end of the match after that team performance just about sums up everything wrong with our club.”
