Harry Kane: Bayern and Tottenham transfer talks still on amid cancelled plane reports

Nick Purewal28 July 2023

Bayern Munich chiefs were still expected in London today for talks with Tottenham as they continue to push for Harry Kane.

Amid reports that Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen and technical director Marco Neppe’s planned flight was cancelled or amended, the pair are still due to meet with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy on Friday, in a bid to find a route to a deal for the striker.

Spurs have returned to London after their pre-season tour, where Kane and his team-mates got to grips with life under new head coach Ange Postecoglou. They next face Shakhtar Donetsk on August 6.

Bayern's two executives did not travel on their club's pre-season tour of Asia, however, in their determination to focus on their pursuit of the England captain.

Spurs are understood to have rebuffed Bayern's advances so far, the latest of two worth around £70million, but the Germans are thought to be willing to offer as much as £86m for Kane, whose contract expires next summer.

Paris Saint-Germain are understood to be confident in brokering a deal for Kane this summer, with the club prepared to outbid all rival suitors.

Kane is believed to be unlikely to harbour much interest in a move to PSG, who are in the market for a striker amid Kylian Mbappe's unsettled situation in Paris.

The France striker refuses to sign a new deal and his PSG contract expires next summer. While Mbappe is expected to spurn interest from Saudi Arabia, Real Madrid will wait patiently for a deal in 12 months' time.

Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel this week admitted it was "no secret" the Germans are seeking a new No9, and he is understood to be a big admirer of Kane, who turned 30 today.

Kane's desire for silverware would be met by a move to Bayern, who have won the Bundesliga 11 times on the trot, but he also has sights on Alan Shearer's Premier League goals record of 260, which he trails by 47.
