Harry Winks 'embarrassed' after Tottenham strike late to avoid FA Cup defeat to League Two Wycombe

Harry Winks was embarrassed after Tottenham needed two late goals to deny League Two Wycombe a shock FA Cup win at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

The fourth tier club had led their Premier League opponents 2-0 and 3-2, but Dele Alli and Heung-min Son struck in the final moments as Spurs booked a spot in the fifth round.

Mauricio Pochettino conceded after the game that Tottenham 'have a problem' if fringe players can't seize their chance against lower-league opposition at home.

Match winner Son was among nine changes to the Tottenham team which drew at Manchester City in the Premier League last Saturday and Spurs are 70 places above Wycombe in the football pyramid.

Tottenham were booed off at the interval following a lacklustre display and 20-year-old Winks admitted their performance made for a frank half-time team talk.

"It was a bit embarrassing to be honest," Winks said. "It wasn't the performance we expected to go out there and give. It was more a case of livening up - not really tactical advice - but to go out there and liven ourselves up.

"It was a tough game, very tough, and credit to Wycombe as they came at us and followed us all around the pitch man-marking.

"They also went 2-0 up so full credit to our team. It shows no matter what team we play against we're always in it to win it and we never give up."
