Queens Park Rangers striker Heidar Helguson is closing in on a move to Cardiff.

The 34-year-old is expected to sign a one-season deal in a bid to get regular football.

Helguson (above) missed most of the second half of last season with a groin injury and the arrival of Andy Johnson from Fulham and Junior Hoilett from Blackburn this summer has made the Iceland international surplus to requirements at Loftus Road. The move to Cardiff will see him reunited with Malky Mackay, having played for the manager while on loan at Watford in 2009.

Mackay is also interested in Liverpool’s Craig Bellamy, as is QPR boss Mark Hughes.
