'I prefer people to run properly at the ball' - Arsene Wenger criticises Mesut Ozil penalty

Arsene Wenger was critical of Mesut Ozil's leisurely approach to an early penalty opportunity after watching the German spurn the chance in Arsenal's 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich.

Despite an early warning from Toni Kroos, the Gunners raced out of the blocks at Emirates Stadium and looked likely to claim the initiative when Ozil earned an eighth-minute spot-kick with the scores still goalless.

But the Germany international frustrated his manager with a casual effort which Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer palmed away with relative ease.

Wenger admitted: "I prefer people to run properly at the ball.

"Everyone has his own style and you have to respect it. There's not one way of penalty taking, if he's comfortable taking it like that...It's his style."

And the Arsenal boss was later left to rue Ozil's lacklustre attempt after Wojciech Szczesny was dismissed in the closing moments of the first period.

Wenger admitted the referee made the right call but feels the rules need revisiting.

He said: "I don't know, I haven't seen it again. If there's contact I think it's a penalty. Is it a red card? I dispute that many times but if it's a rule it's a rule, we have to accept it."
