Injured Craig Gordon slams dangerous Jermain Defoe

On the sidelines: Sunderland will be without Craig Gordon for a number of matches

Sunderland keeper Craig Gordon has blamed Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe for the challenge which left him with a broken arm.

The 26-year-old Scotland international is facing several weeks on the sidelines after suffering the fracture in a collision with the frontman during last weekend's 2-0 Barclays Premier League defeat at White Hart Lane.

Writing in his blog on the club's official website, www.safc.com, Gordon said: "I thought at the time it was a poor challenge. After looking at it again, I haven't changed my mind.

"It's always dangerous diving down at strikers' feet, but I feel Jermain might have done more to avoid the collision."

The injury is the latest in a series to have blighted the former Hearts keeper's time on Wearside following his then club record £9million move south.

He has produced some of his best form for the club in recent weeks after re-establishing himself in the side following a lengthy absence last season.

Gordon returned in place of Marton Fulop for the 4-1 Carling Cup second round victory at Norwich on August 24, and has started every game since.

He said: "It's a real blow personally as I feel I was really starting to discover my best form for Sunderland after what's been a really difficult time with injuries over the past couple of years.

"I have been completely injury free since coming back for the Norwich game, but now after this broken arm, I will be out again for a number of weeks."
