Jose Mourinho has criticised Luis Suarez for making the most of contact from Samuel Eto’o inside the penalty area as Chelsea edged past Liverpool 2-1 on Sunday.
Eto’o appeared to step across Suarez as the Reds went in search of an equaliser in the second half, causing the Uruguay international to tumble, but referee Howard Webb was unmoved by subsequent protests.
And Mourinho claimed in his post-match comments that Webb made the right call but insisted the Liverpool forward should have been cautioned for provoking the incident.
"On the situation with Suarez I would resolve this with a yellow card for Luis Suarez. I keep saying I hate players trying to provoke situations,” the 50-year-old said.
“Luis is an amazing player and I have lots of respect for his quality and his attitude of trying to win every game but sometimes he tries too much...
"Eto'o just put his body in front of him. It looks like somebody shot him."
The Chelsea boss felt his own side deserved a spot-kick when Eden Hazard fell to ground inside the 18-yard box.
"I think there is a big case for a penalty on Hazard," he said.
"Something is happening, week after week, I don't know why referees don't see it. He's a fair boy and I don't know why this is happening...
Mourinho reserved some praise for all players who have had to shoulder the physical demands of a congested festive period.
He added: "Premier League players in this country deserve fantastic respect because what they do is amazing," he said. "To play in this period is beautiful. I love it. I keep saying I love it.
