QPR have now made Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink their first choice to become their new boss.

Caretaker Neil Warnock was a candidate to take charge for the rest of the season following the sacking of Chris Ramsey but is no longer an option for personal reasons.

Hasselbaink’s name is now at the top of QPR’s short-list but agreeing compensation with Burton Albion could be a major obstacle.

The former Chelsea striker has impressed since taking his first coaching role there 12 months ago.

Burton were promoted to League One as champions in May and are now fifth in the table.

Last week Burton chairman Ben Robinson denied Rangers had made an approach.

Other names have been discussed by QPR including Wolves manager Kenny Jackett.

Another alternative could be Kevin Blackwell, who has been working as Warnock’s assistant.

Michael Laudrup, a contender when Harry Redknapp left in February, is still on the list because he is considered a ‘big name’.

However, former QPR boss Ian Holloway is no longer a possibility after the board had second thoughts.
