Jose Mourinho: Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea don't have same title responsibility as Manchester United

Tom Dutton27 December 2017

Jose Mourinho has said Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea do not have "the responsibility" to win the Premier League title this season.

The Manchester United manager was fielding questions after watching his side drop points at home to Burnley as City's firm grip on the title grew stronger.

Pep Guardiola's runaway leaders can move 15 points clear of the chasing pack with victory over Newcastle on Wednesday evening after United were held at home by Burnley.

The pressure is building on Mourinho, who has spent around £300million since moving to Old Trafford 18 months ago.

His side won the League Cup and the Europa League last term, but finished 24 points behind title-winners Chelsea in the Premier League and are already all but out of the race for league honours this season.

And Mourinho is frustrated that his team are expected to win the title every season when other challengers do not cope with the same pressure.

Mourinho said: "A big club is one thing and another thing is a big football team. They are two different things.

"When you speak about responsibilities to win the Premier League, Tottenham doesn't have that responsibility because they are not a club with the same history as us.

"Arsenal doesn't have the responsibility to win it, Chelsea doesn't have the responsibility.

"When you speak about big football clubs, you are speaking about the history of the club.
