Kim Min-jae to Manchester United: Why transfer target is taking note of top-four race

Napoli star Kim Min-jae is waiting to see if Manchester United qualify for the Champions League before making a decision over his future.

The centre-back has been of interest to United since before his move to Serie A, and those links have intensified during the South Korean's eye-catching debut season in Europe as Napoli claimed their first title in 33 years.

Kim reportedly has a release clause in his contract worth around £48million, which is active for two weeks from July 1. Napoli are understood to be keen to remove the clause with a fresh contract offer.

Kim's agent has denied reports of an agreement with United, insisting his client will not make any decision until the end of the season.

"It is not true that a deal has been done with Manchester United," his agent told Star News Korea. "Kim is concentrated on seeing out the season, besides which we still don't know which English clubs will qualify for the Champions League next term.

"There is no rush for the future. United were interested in him when he was still in China, but we only ever chatted about that.

"I repeat, there has been no concrete contact. In any case he has to enrol for military service in June."
