Diego Costa responds to omission from Chelsea squad with Instagram message

Diego Costa responded to being left out of Antonio Conte's team to take on Leicester City this evening by urging his teammates onto a win at the King Power Stadium.

The striker took to his Instagram account just hours after it emerged he had been left behind in London following a row with coach Conte over his fitness to send an encouraging message to his colleagues.

Premier League leaders Chelsea will play defending champions Leicester tonight and, in the post on his official account on Friday night, Costa wrote: "Come on Chelsea!!!"

The public message to the Chelsea team comes after the Brazilian-born Spain international's future with the Blues was thrown into doubt when he did not travel to Leicester on Friday.

Diego Costa's Chelsea controversies

Standard Sport understands Costa did not train fully with the Chelsea first team this week after reporting to Cobham with an injury, which sparked a dispute between him and the club's fitness staff.

Conte got involved and it ended in Costa - who is the Premier League's top scorer with 14 goals - being left out of the Italian's travelling party for the Leicester trip.

Costa had spent the week uploading clips of himself training alone in his gym onto his Instagram stories before taking a selfie after a workout and posting it onto his account on Thursday.

The episode follows Costa receiving a mammoth offer from a Chinese Super League side, believed to be Tianjin Quanjian, which would see the 28-year-old earn more than £570,000-a-week - £30million per year.

Tianjin Quanjian earlier this month recruited Belgium midfielder Axel Witsel from Zenit St Petersburg in a deal that will see him earn a reported £15.3million per year.

It follows a number of high-profile players to leave Europe for China, including former Chelsea midfielders Oscar - now at Shanghai SIPG - and Mikel John Obi - now at Tianjin TEDA.

Newly promoted side Tianjin Quanjian are managed by former Italy international Fabio Cannavaro.
