Lionel Messi to Paris Saint-Germain is now signed and official.

PSG teased the announcement in a social media clip on Tuesday afternoon before then confirming that the six-time Ballon d’Or winner had agreed his sensational move to the Parc des Princes.

Messi has signed a two-year contract in Paris that includes the option of a third and is rumoured to be worth a cool €35million net per season.

His official unveiling and introductory press conference will take place at the home of PSG on Wednesday morning.

“I am excited to begin a new chapter of my career at Paris Saint-Germain,” Messi said. “Everything about the club matches my football ambitions.

“I know how talented the squad and the coaching staff are here. I am determined to help build something special for the club and the fans, and I am looking forward to stepping out onto the pitch at the Parc des Princes.”

PSG chairman and chief executive Nasser Al-Khelaifi said: “I am delighted that Lionel Messi has chosen to join Paris Saint-Germain and we are proud to welcome him and his family to Paris

“ He has made no secret of his desire to continue competing at the very highest level and winning trophies, and naturally our ambition as a club is to do the same.

“The addition of Leo to our world class squad continues a very strategic and successful transfer window for the club. Led by our outstanding coach and his staff, I look forward to the team making history together for our fans all around the world.”

Messi spent 21 years at the Camp Nou, winning 34 major trophies and scoring 672 goals in 778 appearances as he established himself as arguably the greatest footballer of all time.

However, that partnership came to an abrupt end due to LaLiga’s strict salary rules meaning Barca were unable to honour the new five-year contract extension they had agreed with the Argentine superstar, who had agreed to take a 50 per cent cut on his reported £123m-per-year salary.
