Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp backs Arsenal to challenge in wide-open title race

Standard Sport8 October 2018

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has tipped Arsenal to challenge for the title this season, after the Gunners moved within two points of the top of the Premier League.

Klopp's Liverpool lie third on goal difference, after Sunday's 0-0 draw with leaders Manchester City moved both sides onto 20 points, the same number as Chelsea.

But Arsenal are improving under Unai Emery, and have won six league games on the bounce to move into the top four.

Tottenham are a place further back, also just two points adrift, and when asked whether he agreed that the title race was wide open, Klopp said: "Absolutely! I knew this before.

"Arsenal are two points behind, yes? Having won six games in a row did they? So it looks like they are in a good shape."

The Gunners lost their first two matches of the season, against Manchester City and Chelsea, but Sunday's 5-1 demolition of Fulham was their ninth consecutive victory in all competitions.
