Liverpool duo Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino huge injury doubts for Carabao Cup Final clash with Chelsea

Liverpool forwards Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino remain considerable doubts for the Carabao Cup Final against Chelsea this weekend.

Portuguese international Jota hurt his ankle in the Champions League last-16 first-leg win over Inter Milan last week, being substituted at half-time at the San Siro and later spotted on crutches and wearing a medical boot.

The 25-year-old sat out Saturday’s 3-1 comeback win over Norwich on Merseyside and is now in a race against time to make Jurgen Klopp’s squad for Wembley on Sunday.

Likewise Firmino, with the Brazilian also suffering a muscle injury against Inter and being absent against Norwich.

Neither player will be considered to face Leeds in a rearranged Premier League fixture on Wednesday evening, while Klopp appeared pessimistic over their chances of being fit to play a part against Chelsea.

“No, for tomorrow, no chance, and then [for] the final we will see. I don’t know in the moment,” Klopp told reporters when quizzed on Jota and Firmino at his pre-Leeds press conference on Tuesday. “It would be easy to say now ‘no’, but we will see.

“They are [pushing] but they were not on the pitch for training [yet] so that’s not a good sign. We have to see what we can do with the boys in the next few days and then we make a decision later in the week.”
