Man City XI vs Tottenham: De Bruyne benched - Starting lineup, confirmed team news and injury latest

Manchester City are without John Stones for this afternoon’s visit to Tottenham, while Kevin De Bruyne is named on the bench.

Stones was injured against Arsenal in the FA Cup last week and sits out the vital trip to north London.

Speaking at a press conference to preview Sunday’s game, Pep Guardiola said of Stones’ injury: “It’s three weeks, one month [out]. Unfortunately, a lot of games.”

With the Gunners having lost to Everton on Saturday, a win could see City close the gap to just two points. Guardiola has opted to name De Bruyne among the substitutes, opting for what appears to be a 4-4-2 shape.

Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake start at the back, while Joao Cancelo's shock move to Bayern Munich sees Kyle Walker and Rico Lewis both in the side.

Riyad Mahrez scored twice and assisted a third in City's 4-2 win over Spurs last month and keeps his place, with Julian Alvarez partnering Erling Haaland up front.

Starting XI: Ederson, Lewis, Walker, Akanji, Ake, Rodri, Silva, Mahrez, Grealish, Alvarez, Haaland

Subs: Ortega Moreno, Dias, Phillips, Gundogan, Laporte, De Bruyne, Gomez, Perrone, Palmer
