Former Blue: Kevin de Bruyne
Simon Johnson18 March 2015

Manchester City have asked Wolfsburg about the availability of former Chelsea midfielder Kevin de Bruyne.

De Bruyne left Chelsea in a deal worth up to £21.5million in January 2014, having made just two League starts in as many years following a £7m switch from Genk.

The Belgian is now one of the most coveted players in Europe. He boasts the most assists in the Bundesliga, with 16.

Officials from City watched De Bruyne in action against Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League three weeks ago and plan to see him again at Inter Milan tomorrow night.

City face competition from Paris Saint Germain for De Bruyne but Wolfsburg are determined to keep the player, who they value at £45m. He still has four years left on a contract worth around £65,000 a week but his club are going to offer a wage increase and extend his deal to 2020.

De Bruyne is keen to play at least one more year at Wolfsburg despite City’s interest.

It is likely Wolfsburg will be more prepared to allow him to leave in 2016.
