Arsene Wenger finally confirmed that Basel midfielder Mohamed Elneny has joined Arsenal on Wednesday night.

Wenger told reporters: "Elneny will of course join us. He has joined us." But the Egypt international's switch is the only major play as the January window limps towards a third week without so much as a rumbling from most of the Premier League's elite clubs.

As such, the futures of certain managers continues to dominate the headlines, with both Louis van Gaal and Steve McClaren under pressure.

But while Tuesday's entertaining draw between Manchester United and Newcastle eased the pressure on Steve McClaren, it seems to have done little to convince the Old Trafford hierarchy that Van Gaal is the man to steer the club back to the very top of English football.
