When it comes to the FA Cup, Manchester United have edged Barclays Premier League rivals Arsenal in recent years, winning three of their last five meetings.

This year, the pair have been pitted against each other once again, in the quarter-finals - the difference this time being that Sir Alex Ferguson will not be in charge of United.

In recent years Arsene Wenger has fielded weaker sides in the FA Cup - most notably in the 4-0 humbling at Old Trafford in 2008. But the Frenchman has vowed to start his strongest XI as the Gunners bid to land trophies in successive seasons after a nine-year drought.

He said: “On the day [in 2008] we lost but we will not put the reserves out on Monday night,” said Wenger. “I don’t exactly remember the circumstances. The FA Cup was always badly positioned before the Champions League games so you always had decisions to make.
