Manchester United's Wayne Rooney excited about working with 'best manager in the world' Jose Mourinho

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has hailed incoming Red Devils coach Jose Mourinho as one of the best managers in the world and admitted his arrival has ushered in "exciting times" for the club.

United appointed Mourinho on a three-year deal last week, six months after the Portuguese coach was sacked by Chelsea.

The 53-year-old will be expected to haul the Red Devils back into contention for the Premier League title next season, having led Chelsea to three top-flight trophies over two stints at the club, and do what Louis van Gaal did not do this term and secure Champions League football.

And speaking about Mourinho for the first time since his appointment, Rooney admitted the former Chelsea manager's arrival at Old Trafford is "exciting" for United.

"He’s one of the best managers in the world," Rooney said on Wednesday.

"It's an exciting time for Manchester United.

"He knows the Premier League very well and I'm looking forward to it [working with Mourinho]."
