Man United injury news: Latest on Marcus Rashford and Eric Bailly

1/29

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly has been ruled out for the season after suffering a knee injury.

The Ivory Coast international left Old Trafford on crutches with his leg in a brace.

Solskjaer said: “It’s a bad injury. I’m sure we won’t see him again this season unfortunately.”

Marcus Rashford also aggravated a shoulder injury in the game, and the forward is a doubt for next weekend’s match against Huddersfield.

"Rashy’s struggled with his shoulder and he came through an hour, but couldn’t do more," added Solskjaer.

And injuries were only part of what proved to be a costly afternoon for Man United.

David de Gea’s error on the stroke of half-time saw Chelsea fire home their equaliser through Marcos Alonso, and United will face an uphill battle to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, teammate Juan Mata offered his support to his compatriot.

"You know, David is unquestionable for me,” said Mata. “His level has been fantastic for this club - he's been the best player over the last years. The amount of points that he has saved us is incredible.

"Yes, we all have good and bad moments over our careers, but for me the important thing is how to react and he is determined to react positively to do what he does best, which is being the best.

"I have 100 per cent confidence in him, and we all have. Today, obviously, he is not happy, we are not happy, but tomorrow morning, he will come back to training with the best attitude as always.

"The only thing I want to say is that his level, for me, is unquestionable."
