Uefa to decide how to complete Champions League and Europa League with ‘knock-out tournaments’ possible

Uefa will decide next week how to complete this season's Champions League and Europa League.

The European governing body's executive committee will hold a two-part video-conference on the afternoon on June 17 and the morning of June 18 to determine the format and location of the outstanding fixtures.

In the Champions League, Chelsea are 3-0 down to Bayern Munich after the home leg of their last-16 tie, while Manchester City are still to host Real Madrid after a 2-1 win in the Spanish capital. Barcelona drew 1-1 at Napoli, while Juventus are 1-0 down after their trip to Lyon.

Manchester United, Wolves and Rangers are still to play the second legs of their Europa League last-16 ties.

Uefa wants to relocate the Champions League and Europa League finals from Istanbul and Gdansk, respectively, and complete the competitions in eight-team mini-tournaments in locations with low rates of coronavirus during August.

Lisbon, Portugal, is the favourite to host a Champions League knockout tournament, while the Europa League could be relocated to Germany.

Uefa would ideally like to play the outstanding Champions League last-16 matches in the same city as the 'final eight' but clubs are reluctant to concede home advantage.

Also on a packed agenda next week is the fate of the Women's Champions League, the venues and schedule for the postponed European Championship, rescheduling of the Nations League and new Uefa guidelines on heading.

In the Women's Champions League, Arsenal face Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-final, while Glasgow City take on Wolfsburg.
