AC Milan sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli expects Marouane Fellaini to leave Manchester United this summer, though he could offer no guarantees the Belgian midfielder would end up at the San Siro.

Fellaini’s current contract at Old Trafford expires in a few weeks, though United boss Jose Mourinho confirmed that the 30-year-old has been offered an extension by the club he joined in September 2013.

Indeed Mourinho said last month that the club were “almost there” in their bid to tie Fellaini down, though there has been no announcement since and speculation has grown that that the Belgium international will be leaving imminently.

“Fellaini could be an important player [for Milan],” Mirabelli told Sky Sport Italia. “We know he is not going to renew with United, but it's difficult to say that we have closed the deal.

“He has important attributes. We will do something in that role but we are keeping everything in reserve.

“First we have to secure our signings, then announce them.”

Fellaini has made 156 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 20 goals, since he arrived as David Moyes’ first signing. Though he was initially unpopular among some supporters they have since warmed to his boisterous style of play.a
