Matthijs de Ligt signs for Juventus in €70m deal as transfer saga ends

Juventus have confirmed the signing of Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax in a deal reportedly worth €70m.

De Ligt had been a target for several of Europe's biggest clubs, with Manchester United, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain all strongly chasing the teenager's signature.

Barca looked on course to link De Ligt up with former Ajax team-mate Frenkie De Jong, who agreed to switch Amsterdam for Camp Nou in January ahead of the summer, but failed to agree personal terms with the defender.

However, Juve have sealed arguably the most coveted signature in Europe. De Ligt has agreed a reported deal worth £10.4m a season with Juve, who extended their record of successive Serie A titles to nine last season.

De Ligt played a starring role for Ajax last season as they won the Eredivisie title and reached the Champions League semi-final.

Juve simply posted a video of De Ligt introducing himself to the club's fans with the message: "DELIGTED?"

The player will now undergo a medical before penning a contract, reportedly five years in length.
