Millwall were pulled further into the relegation mire, as a plucky Wolves side ran out 2-0 winners at The Den.

The hosts stumbled to a fourth consecutive home League defeat, a period that has seen them score just once in front of their home support.

Failure to replace Chris Wood, who scored 11 goals in 19 appearances before signing for Leicester in January, has typified Millwall’s inability to turn chances into goals - and it was a lack of firepower that cost the Lions again.

Wolves started brightly; Bakary Sako had already gone close before Edwards opened the scoring. Sylvan Ebanks-Blake lifted the ball into the path of the on-rushing midfielder, who guided the ball past a helpless David Forde.

But Millwall grew into the game, and they could have pulled level before the break. Josh Wright whipped in a vicious cross for Shane Lowry, whose headed effort was gathered by Carl Ikeme, at the second time of asking.

The hosts were not aided in the attacking department by injuries to both Benik Afobe and John Marquis; both were forced from the field before the break. Such hard luck will leave Kenny Jackett scratching his head ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final against Blackburn.

Millwall came out fighting after the break and nearly drew level. Andy Keogh couldn’t grow the inch required as he slid in at the back post, with the goal at his mercy.

And despite an improved second-half showing from Millwall, the visitors wrapped up the points in the 61 minute. Ebanks-Blake acrobatically converted Jamie O’Hara’s cross to hand the visiting coach, Dean Saunders, his first win at the club.

The result leaves Jackett’s men looking precariously over their shoulders, as the prospect of a relegation dog-fight appears to loom on the horizon for the mis-firing Lions.
