Pep Guardiola, following his switch from Barcelona to Bayern Munich, is set to offer Chelsea £40million for Brazilian defender David Luiz, according to reports.

The Sun claim that Guardiola was eager to sign the Chelsea star at Barcelona but is now ready to make a move for him now he is settled at Bayern.

Luiz, 26, signed a new contract with the west London club last year and Jose Mourinho is reiterating that the player is not for sale.

Mourinho told reporters, while on tour with the club in Asia that Luiz is in his first team plans.

"The potential is incredible, amazing," Mourinho said of the Brazilian, "He always has to play. For me he is a central defender."

Luiz was excused from Chelsea's pre-season tour due to his appearance in the Confederations Cup, but is due to meet up with the team today.

The defender joined Chelsea in 2011 from Benfica for an undisclosed fee, reported to be around £20-25million.
