Chelsea team news: Injured Pedro set to miss Sheffield Utd match

Pedro is set to miss Saturday’s Premier League match against Sheffield Utd with a hamstring injury.

The 32-year-old sustained the problem during the warm-up prior to last weekend’s 3-2 win at Norwich and was forced to watch the game from the sidelines.

He left Carrow Road bemoaning the situation as a “disaster” and subsequent tests are thought to have left him a major doubt for the club’s final match before the first international break of the season.

Pedro’s probable absence comes as a significant blow to Frank Lampard despite the Chelsea head coach securing his first victory without the midfielder. He had been in good form, starting all three matches under Lampard and providing useful experience to a young team featuring Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount.

That duo got on the scoresheet to help kick-start Chelsea’s season and captain Cesar Azpilicueta believes the victory will go some way to relieving the “frustration” at falling short against Manchester United, Liverpool and Leicester City.

“I am happy with the team spirit because when you are at Chelsea you play every game to win and when you don’t get the win you get frustrated and I am happy for the team, for everyone, we have been working hard for this,” he said.

“Frank and his staff have been working very hard alongside us since the first day in July. The only thing we had in our minds was to play with high intensity, to control the games, to win the games, so obviously when you don’t get the results you have been working on and with the performances we had, we have been disappointed.

“But we had a lot of confidence in ourselves. We knew that all the work, it could pay off any day and this time it was the case.”
