Divock Origi is set to stay at Anfield beyond the close of the transfer window next week after talks between Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund broke down.

The Belgian striker’s representatives have been made aware that loan offers for their client will not be entertained, with Jurgen Klopp now happy to keep him as part of the first-team squad.

Liverpool were willing to allow Origi, who spent last season on loan at Wolfsburg, to depart the club this summer on the right terms.

However, the player rejected the opportunity to move to Wolves before the English transfer deadline after a deal worth £22m plus add-ons was agreed.

Talks over a loan switch to Dortmund that would obligate the German club to purchase the forward outright subsequently took place, though they have now reached an unsatisfactory conclusion.

And with the club having already raised £20m from the sale of Danny Ings to Southampton, there is no rush to allow Origi to leave for a cut-price free.

Klopp is now minded to retain the 23-year-old for the first half of the season at least, with his performances in training offering proof that he can make a positive contribution.

Origi is believed to have stood out during a training game at Melwood earlier this week, and remains a popular member of the squad.
